The challenges posed by our changing climate, the plastic filling our oceans, and the finite resources available on our planet can be overwhelming but there are small, everyday steps we can all take to be part of the solution. This class will cover what happens to household waste and why we need to reduce our consumption as well as simple steps everyone can take to alleviate, eliminate, and make better use of single-use plastic, food waste, clothing, and garden waste. Learn about the ways that wasting less can actually bring you more creativity, more connection, and more community.
Anna Hewitt has been passionate about making things and caring for the earth her whole life. She grew her knowledge of cooking and baking while working in restaurants, commercial bakeries, as an apprentice cheese maker, and a master food preserver. More recently, she is sharing her knowledge on how to use scraps, odds, and ends to encourage creativity and connection and provide resources for people to live a less wasteful, more abundant life. Anna lives on the coast of southern Maine with her husband and two young children where she is building a suburban homestead, turning her lawn into an orchard and vegetable garden, and befriending a small flock of chickens.
